But there are some Google Maps secrets that were never meant to have been photographed. You can explore the entire planet from the comfort of your home. In this case we have a mixture of data, including Latitude and Longitude (Wikipedia is great for finding these numbers!) and street addresses, but for many famous landmarks, you could use their common name. Your spreadsheet should be laid out similar to this one. You can have up to 15 columns of information but at least one must contain unique location information so Google can find the place. When it comes time to create the map, a copy of the final Sheet must reside in the same Google Drive account as you’ll be using for the map. Our tool for organizing the data will be a spreadsheet from any program that export to the CSV format, or, better yet, a Google Sheet that students can share with a group to collaborate on the project. It also forces them to focus on the information without the distraction of the options in the map tools. This is a great approach to use with students, especially when they are working in groups, since we know most of them could use better organizational skills. We start, as with any good project, by doing the necessary research and organizing our information. And the process for adding locations one at a time is not hard, but we can make it even easier by first collecting the data in a spreadsheet.
